The Bird of Paradise appreciates the occasional misting with clean water. There is no need to feed Bird of Paradise during the winter when plant growth slows. You can also top-dress in spring and once again in mid-summer with Osmocote Indoor /Outdoor granular fertilizer if that is easier for you. During the spring and summer months fertilize the plants once a month with an all-purpose liquid feed like Jack's classic All-Purpose Fertilizer. Fertilizerīird of Paradise are heavy feeders mostly due to their rapid growth. It is a well-drained soil with a larger particle size which Birds of Paradise seem to prefer. We believe this is due to the high amount of organic matter in the soil. Birds of paradise will produce their best growth in fertile, well-drained potting soil. In our trials, we have found them to be happiest in Ocean Forest Potting Soil. Caring for Bird of Paradise Plants Soilīird of Paradise are tolerant of a range of potting soil types. White Birds are mainly used for their foliage. this is largely due to its dramatic, arching dark green leaves, The White Bird of Paradise does require a good deal of sunlight to flower, so don't expect to see large clusters of flowers indoors.Īlthough it typically does not bloom indoors, that's not to say it won't if given the optimal amount of sun in a sunroom or atrium in a commercial building for example. The Orange bird of paradise plant can grow up to 4 feet tall. But when moved outdoors during the warm summer months it produces brilliant, long-lasting flowers. When grown exclusively Indoors as a houseplant, the orange bird of paradise will rarely bloom. Strelitzia reginae is its botanical Latin name. Some say they resemble a long-necked bird's head peeking out from the dark gray-green foliage. It produces superb flowers that are shaped like a tropical bird in flight.
